Savannah Country Day's Barber, Maeda runners up Area 1 Private School championship

Savannah Country Day freshman Kohki Maeda carded a score of 1-under 71 and senior Kate Barber posted a score fo 1-over 73 as both finished runner up at the Area 1 Private School golf championship played at Crosswinds Golf Club on April 28.

Led by Maeda, Savananh Country Day's boys finished runner up behind Prince Avenue Christian Academy from Athens, Ga., to qualify for the Private School State Tournament to be  played May 19-20 at Twin City Country Club in Tennille, Ga. Other counting scores for Savannah Country Day were junior Caden Hartley's 3-over 75, sophomore Charles Morris' 4-over 76 and junior Hunter Goldstein's 11-over 83.

Savannah Christian Preparatory School's girls team, led by enior Ava Cottis' 5-over par 77, finished third and qualfiied for the state tournament. The other counting score for the Red Raiders came from freshman Caroline Burroughs with an 88.

With the runner up finish, Barber qualified as an individual for the state tournament. As a junior in 2024, Barber finished 4th at the Class AAA state tournament.
