Savannah's Hayes leading age group at SJGT event

After a first-round score of 2-over 75, Savannah's Carson Hayes is leading the Boys 12-13 age group at the Southeastern Junior Golf Tour's West Lake Junior Classic being played June 23-24 at West Lake Country Cluib in Augusta, Ga.

Hayes, who got off to a fast start with three birdies in his first nine holes, has a five stroke lead in his age group over Kevin Fields from Milton, Ga. He has played in four SJGT events, and his previous best finish is fourth at the Brunswick Junior Classic after rounds of 74-79.

In the Boys 16-19 age group, Savannah's Hamp Threlkeld, a rising junior at Benedictine Military School, is alone in fourth place after one round following a 2-over 75. Savannah's Caden Hartley, a rising junior at Savannah Country Day School, is T5 after posted a 3-over 76. Other area players in the field include Richmond Hill's Matthew Reynolds, a rising junior at Richmond Hill High School, who is T10 after a 5-over par 78.
