Savannah's Maeda wins SJGT event at Sanctuary Golf Club

Savannah's Kohki Maeda, a sophomore at Savannah Country Day School, birdied his 17th and 18th holes to win the SJGT Low Country Junior Classic played August 30-31 at Sanctuary Golf Club in Waverley, Georgia. 

Maeda carded scores of 71-67 to finish 6-under par and one stroke ahead of Richmond Hill's Patrick Mahaffey, a senior at Richmond Hill High School, in the Boys 16-19 age group. Maeda also won the overall Boys 14-19 group after surviving a two-hole playoff against Bax Clement from Valdosta, Georgia. 

On his last hole of the tournament, Maeda made a 10-foot putt for birdie that enabled him to take a one-stroke lead over Mahaffey. Playing one group behind Maeda, Mahaffey made a par on the 18th hole ot narrowly miss the playoff. 

In Boys 16-19, Pooler's Caden Hartley, a senior at Savannah Country Day School, finished sixth after scores of 69-73, and Savannah's Jack Weeks, a junior at Benedictine Military School, posted Even par after rounds of 74-70 to finish ninth at Even par.
