Two local volleyball teams come back from their matches yesterday to win a championship and move onto the final four.

Savannah, GA - Savannah Christian Preparatory School (SCPS) and St. Vincent's Academy (SVA) went the distance on Thursday night, October 13, 2022, in the  Georgia High School Association AAA Region 3 volleyball best-of-five championship match at St. Vincent's. With the Region 3AAA Championship, SCPS earns the No. 1 seed heading into the state tournament and home-court advantage.

SCSP defeated SVA from a 2-1 deficit to take the area championship3-2. The scores were  25-23 (SCPS), 25-22 (SVA), 23- 25 (SVA), 25-11 (SCPS), and they won the fifth set, 15-11.

"The region final was a hard-fought match by both teams. St. Vincent's really played well and was very scrappy defensively," said SCPS head Coach Julie Jones. "I was very proud of my team for staying consistent through five sets and not giving up big runs. Also very pleased with how we responded when our starting Libero left in the 3rd set after getting sick. We kept our composure when the lineup changed and worked through it."

Highlights for SCPS were Maggie Kyriakides with 18 kills and 11 digs;
Kate Theriot, ten kills, three aces; Reese Theriot, ten kills; Katie Cowart, 18 assists, seven digs; Mary Brit Tallevast, 14 assists, six digs; Maggie Byrd 6 kills, two aces, and Kenzie Greene with seven digs and three aces.
SCPS will host a GHSA first-round playoff match on Tuesday, October 18, 2022. The opponent and time will be announced later this weekend.
