Islands High School senior Meara Kelly started playing soccer when she was 3 years old and hasn't slowed down since.
The 17-year old has scored 9 goals and been credited with 8 assists during the 2020 season for the Sharks, and she's already signed to play collegiately for Wofford College. She was named the Savannah Morning News All-Greater Savannah Player of the Year following her junior year.
"I was honestly very surprised to win this as I am not necessarily a goal-scorer, and often play more defense than offense," Kelly said. "I was very honored to have been recognized for my play in that aspect, because it is not always represented on a stats sheet and because of all the great girls soccer players in Savannah."
In addition to continuing her soccer career, Kelly plans to major in Biology on a Pre-medicine track while at Wofford. After that, I wish to apply to Physician Assistant program and work in an orthopedic office.
"My mother has always gone far out of her way to ensure I have the best opportunities in soccer and in life," Kelly said.
