Hard work and persevering for Islands High School senior soccer player Olivia White is the normal. After being recruited to play at the next level and the coach leaving before White could sign. She stayed the course. Athletes from the Class of 2020 are still signing scholarships during the coronavirus pandemic. Olivia being one of the best prep girl’s soccer players in the Coastal Empire finally signed on Saturday June 27th to continue her career in college. A game she has been playing for a long time

Olivia began playing soccer at six and has truly loved playing the game ever since.  White played for the Islands High School Sharks and said, “My 2020 season was cut short but memorable.”  IHS took part in the Tournament of Champions and defeated rival Savannah Arts Academy for the first time in school history early in the season. IHS were first in their region and planning to head to the state playoffs when Covid-19 caused the season to be postponed.

Throughout Olivia’s career she lettered in soccer at Islands High School 2017-2020, named to the All Greater Savannah Girls Soccer Second Team in 2018 and 2019, was a Specialty Sports All-Star Soccer Games Participant 2019, and awarded the Islands High School Women’s Soccer Most Versatile Player 2019. In the classroom, Olivia excelled in the IHS Research Program and carried a high GPA. White’s class load has not been an easy one as she has taken courses in AP Science, AP US History, Advanced Algebra, and Scientific Research Honors.

Assistant Girl’s Soccer Blair Fine validated Olivia’s hard work and dedication as a true student athlete. “Olivia has grown as a player over the last three years that I had the pleasure to coach her. With every game, her confidence grew, and she became a powerful starter for us. Olivia is a versatile player and is always willing to step out of her comfort zone. The few games she could play her senior year, she became a crucial part of our defense playing center back. Olivia loves to play soccer and her passion motivated her and her teammates. She is not only a valuable athlete, but is a top student in the Class of 2020 at Islands. We have recognized her for her work in the Research Program and her high GPA. We are excited to see what the future holds for her at the next level and we know she will succeed,” said Coach Fine. There are people in Olivia’s life that have instilled her competitiveness and dedication to her schoolwork and soccer career.

White stated, “The most influential people have been my parents. My dad has been there to instill my competitiveness and dedication. My mom has shown me kindness and hard work. Together, they have taught me values to live by, supported me and encouraged me to pursue my dreams while challenging myself to be the best that I can be. I would not be the person I am today without their love and guidance!”

Olivia believes she has been a successful student athlete because she is very goal oriented and has been successful at time-management.  White says, “My schedule can be very hectic. From keeping up with assignments and attending class, team practice and games, there is a lot on my plate. Besides academic and athletic obligations, I try to maintain some social life and relax.”

Olivia has signed a National Letter of Intent to play D1 soccer at South Carolina State University in the fall. White will major in biology and minor in environmental science.
