Savannah area soccer is earning recognition, and a first-place showdown is coming Thursday.

Around Savannah, the bigger picture is clear.

Richmond Hill’s girls, ranked No. 4 in GHSA 6A, continue to lead the way, playing unbeaten soccer and setting the tone. In the GHSA Private A-AAA ranks, Calvary Day No. 5 and St. Vincent’s Academy No. 7 have both been steady.

On the boys side, Islands is ranked No. 2 in GHSA Class 3A, with Jenkins at No. 7, while Calvary checks in at No. 3 in GHSA Private A-AAA. Savannah Arts Academy, ranked No. 10 in Class 2A, leads a group just outside the top 10 that includes Benedictine, Savannah Country Day, and Woodville-Tompkins, all battling in tight region races.

It doesn’t get much bigger than this in the Savannah area. Undefeated Islands (13-0) will host unbeaten Calvary Day (9-0) on Thursday night with both teams sitting at 7-0 in region play and the top spot on the line.

Both Islands and Calvary Day have taken care of business all season. They’ve handled common opponents, controlled matches, and built momentum at the right time. Now they meet with something real at stake — position, pride, and playoff seeding as per Maxpreps.com preview states.

Before Thursday arrives, there’s still work to do.

Tonight, March 24, Islands hosts Windsor Forest, while Calvary Day travels to Liberty County. Two games that may not carry the same spotlight, but both matter. You overlook one, and Thursday changes fast.

If both teams stay unbeaten, the stage is set.

Islands has been dominant at home and played like a complete team from start to finish. Calvary Day has matched that consistency, winning on the road and showing it can control the tempo of a match.

This is strength vs. strength. No secrets. No surprises. Just two teams that have done everything right, now lining up to see who takes the region’s top spot.

Right now, it’s simple. Savannah-area soccer is competing. Savannah-area soccer is winning. And Savannah-area soccer is getting noticed. Thursday night is the kind of game that will show the state what’s coming in playoff time.

Below are the region standings.
