Tuesday was a big night for Savannah Country Day head girl's basketball coach Kenny Conroy. First, Conroy coached his Lady Hornets Day basketball team to an overcome win over Georgia High School Association Region 3A top-seeded Calvary Day 70-66.

The Hornets, will be the No. 2 seed going into the Class AAA Region 3 tournament, are led by the veteran girl's basketball coach Conroy in his inaugural campaign at Country Day. He is also Country Day's athletic director, but his second-night accomplishment was grabbing his 500th career victory with the win.

As a girls' basketball coach, Conroy has won seven state championships. Before returning to Savannah, Conroy held the same position at Hilton Head Christian Academy. He helped the Lady Eagles win five state championships in 12 seasons, including the last four straight.

Kenny reflected on his career and 500 wins. "It's been a great run in my career. I'm throwing in seven state championships on top of that 500 wins. I've had a couple of runner-up seasons, but it has been a blessing," said Conroy. "I've been blessed with talented and hard-working players that have bought into my coaching philosphies and helped form a winning culture at the schools I have been at."

Previous coaching stints before Savannah Country Day (2022-present) and Hilton Head Christian (2011-2022) for Conroy have been at Bible Baptist (2006-2011), Hilton Head Prep (2001-2006), and where it all began the first time at Hilton Head Christian (1996-2001).

Conroy said, "The first championship at Bible Baptist was always memorable because it was a group of girls that bought into a system. Then, of course, the four-in-the-row South Carolina Independent Schools Association championships at the Hilton Head Christian Academy. It was special with that group of girls because they bought into the domino effect of winning it every year."
