Woodville-Tompkins scored two decisive wins last week after a long layoff. The Wolverines boy's basketball program is used to playing non-stop back to back games, and tournaments took a hiatus. After three weeks without playing a game, the Woodville Tompkins's Wolverines played back-to-back region games. Both were against region foes, the Vidalia Indians, at home on Friday night, January 8th. Then the other game on the road, an hour and a half bus ride to East Laurens on Saturday night, January 10th.
After a hard-fought game on Friday, Woodville took to the road and defeated East Lauren 81-38 in a region match-up. The Wolverines are 9-1 overall, 4-1 in the region. Standing out for Woodville was Alfonzo Ross, scoring 20 points, followed by Zion Powers 12 points, Lukas Platauna and Julles Spruill each had 11 points, and Bruce Bailey chipped in 10 points. Antonio Hunt controlled the rebounds for Woodville.
Friday in a game between region rivals, Woodville defeat Vidalia 54-44. Wolverines are 8-1 and 3-1 in the region. The top scorers for Woodville were Alfonzo Ross 14 points, Zion Powers 11 points, Antonio Hunt 10 points, point guard Bruce Bailey 7 points, and a great floor game.
As of this writing, Woodville moved up one spot to #4 in the Class AA boys Georgia High School Association rankings posted on the sandysspiel.com basketball website.
