Area junior golfers in conention after first round of Georgia Junior Amateur

Savannah's Bear Dollander, a Benedictine Military School senior already committed to play college golf for the University of Albama, posted an impressive score of 6-under par 66 at Coosa Country Club in Rome, Georgia, on July 6 to finish T2 after the first roun of the 61st Georgia Junior Amateur Championship. 

Dollander, who finihsed runner up at the 2024 Georgia Junior Amateur played in Statesboro at Forest Heights Country Club, raeched 7-under par through 16 holes before a bogey on the 18th hole put him in a four-way tied for second behind first-round leader Brooks Urquhart from Columbus, Georgia. Dollander is tied at 6-under par with Tyler Newsome from Abuusta, Georgia, Bodie Brumlow from Cartersville, Georgia and Davis Blackmon from Louisville, Georgia. 

Richmond Hill's Ledger Conley, who graduated with the Class of 2026 from Richmond Hill High School, is T7 and only three strokes behind the lead after an opening round of 4-under par 67. And Conley's former teammate, Richmond HIll's Patrick Mahaffey, is also within striking distance in the top 10 after a first round score of 2-under par 70. 

The scoring at Coosa Country Club was low throughout the first round, with 31 players finishing at Even par or better and 24 players finishing under par.
