Brown, from St. Vincent's Academy, signs with Jacksonville University

On Thursday, February 15, 2024, a first happened at St. Vincent's Academy.

Abigail Brown, a senior from SVA, made history by becoming the first-ever Saint student/athlete to sign National Letter of Intent as a clay sports shooter with Jacksonville University.

Brown found her passion for the sport while participating in clay sport shooting in 2022 for the well-known Forest City Gun Club Juniors Team from Savannah, GA. Abigail competed for the Forest City Gun Club Juniors Team at the Scholastic Clay Target Program National Championships during the summer of 2023.

Brown serves as the captain of the St. Vincent's Riflery team. The SVA all-girls team competes in the Georgia High School Association Area 3 Region and is in 4th place as of this writing. She was also recognized for her hard work and dedication, earning the Most Improved Shooter Award in 2022 and the Coach's Award.

The "Coach" Karl DeMasi has been teaching and coaching for the past 35 years on all levels of academia and athletics. One of his hobbies has been writing, announcing and talking about sports. DeMasi has been involved in the Savannah Area sports scene since 1995, and he created the high school magazine "The Prep Sports Report" in 2000. In 2010, the "Coach" started broadcasting The Karl DeMasi Sports Report. He's still going strong, broadcasting on Facebook live and Twitter live every Saturday morning. You gotta love it!
