After four rounds of the Georgia High School Association Class 1A/5A playoffs, the Calvary Day School Lady Cavaliers will step foot in Georgia State University Parc Stadium (the old Braves Stadium) for a chance to be the first-ever GHSA flag football champions and make history against a familiar face; the Portal Panthers.

Both teams are from the same league and faced each other earlier in the inaugural GHSA Flag Football season. "We played Portal in the second game of the season and tied them 6-6," said Coach Chad Griffin. "Getting coaches with flag football experience was big time. We have coaches, like Nick Grassi and Joe Newton. They both have played flag football, won championships, and have taught the girls the game. Now we're playing the game the way it is supposed to be played, and it's fun."

"We started the season with two ties, and if you asked the coaches if we would be in the state championship. We would have told you we weren't thinking about it when we started," said Griffin.

Calvary advanced to the Class 1A-5A finals tomorrow, Monday, December 28th, as the Cavs beat Northside-Columbus 14-12 at the Home Depot Backyard Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The Cavs improved to 6-0-2 on the year and will kick off the GHSA state girls and boys football championships versus Portal at noon at Center Parc Stadium.

The team consists of 20 players from other Lady Cavalier athletic teams, basketball, volleyball, swimming, and soccer. These girls need to be recognized. The Calvary team consists of six seniors. The seniors are  Cayden Fleming, Maggie Presley, Katie Ellenwood, Neveah Hamilton, Emma Crosby and Lauren Woods. From the junior class, there are eight juniors,  Lauren Baker, Ava Farrelly, Maddie Carswell, Mahkayla Premo, Ansley Faircloth, Morgan Soukhamneut, Mady Thorpe, and Claire Thomas. Then three players from the sophomore class, Maddie Sheldon, Hannah Cail, Nakyiah King, and four freshmen Carlee Hurst, McKenzie Clayton, Lily Frye and Rickezia Boyd.
