Catching the John Carr Seaport Real Estate 2024 Baseball Player(s) of the Week for Weeks 2 -4

John Carr Seaport Real Estate and the Prep Sports Report recognize the top high school baseball Player(s) of the Week for the Savannah Area. The PSR announced it was catching up with weeks 2 to 4 players of the week who showed their impressive skills on the baseball field. The players selected all did well as batters and pitchers. Ryan Wallace from Calvary Day School excelled with his hitting and pitching abilities. Ben Fernandez from Islands High School also performed well with the bat and on the hill. Lastly, Harding Dennis from Savannah Christian Prep demonstrated excellence both as a hitter and pitcher.

 

Week 2

Player of the WEEK

Player: Ryan Wallace, junior RHP and 3B

School: Calvary Day School

Sport: Baseball

Week:  Feb. 19, 2024 - Feb.23, 2024

 

 

Highlight:  During a three-game series, Wallace displayed his skills as a hitter and pitcher, leading to him being nominated as the Player of the Week by John Carr. While at bat, Ryan had a 4-8 record, driving in three runs with his hitting abilities. Yet his pitching performance on Saturday against the Allatoona team stood out. He threw five innings with one hit allowed, striking out seven batters. Wallace's dual-threat display earned him the Player of the Week nomination.

 

Coach's Comments: "Ryan has been a great addition to the Calvary Baseball Program and school. His work ethic and knowledge of the game are extraordinary. Ryan's performance during the second Week of the season was impressive, both on the mound and at the plate," said Calvary Day School Head Coach Phillip Lee.

 

Week 3

Player of the WEEK

Player: Ben Fernandez, senior 1B/RHP

School: Islands High School

Sport: Baseball

Week: February 26, 2024 - March 2, 2024

 

Highlight:  Ben Fernandez's performance led to his being named the Week 3 John Carr Player of the Week. He played a role in the Islands' impressive 12-0 victory over McIntosh County, securing three hits out of four at-bats. Fernandez hit triples in the 4th and 6th innings and a single in the 5th, significantly contributing to his team's 12-run performance. In addition, to his outstanding day at the plate he also demonstrated his pitching ability by pitching a scoreless inning in the 5th striking out two of the three Buccaneers he faced. His outstanding Week was capped with six hits in 11 bats and six runs batted in overall.

 

Coach's Comments: "Ben has been a big boost for us since coming back from basketball season. He has gotten his timing back down and is going to be a force in the middle of our lineup the rest of the season." – Islands Head Coach Brandon Collins.

 

Week 4

Player of the WEEK

Player: Harding Dennis, junior 1B/RHP

School: Savannah Christian Preparatory School

Sport: Baseball

Week: March 4, 2024 - March 9, 2024

 

Highlight:  During the Week of March 4, Harding Dennis of Savannah Christian played two impressive games for the Raiders against Camden County to earn him the Week 4 John Carr Seaport Real Estate Player of the Week. Dennis went 5 for 7 with five runs batted in for the series versus the Wildcats and picked up the win in relief. On Tuesday, March 5, in the first game of the two-game series. Harding was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI as he pitched the last two innings in relief for the win, striking out five Wildcat batters while giving up one earned run. On Thursday, March 6, Harding had another productive game against Camden County with two hits in four at-bats and three RBIs in a 6-5 losing cause for the Raiders.

 

Coach's Comments:  "Harding has been very consistent for us so far this season. He is a hard worker that still has a ton of untapped potential. I expect him to continue to be a big contributor for us at the plate and on the mound as the season goes on." - Savannah Christian Preparatory Head Coach Matt Ogelsby
