The Savannah Country Day boys & Girls teams swarmed the Eckburg Center on Savannah Christian's Preparatory Schools campus this past weekend. The Hornets stung the opponents and came home as GHSA Region 3-A Private Champions. The Lady Hornets defeated regular-season champions Calvary Day School, and the Hornets took down the boy's regular-season champions Savannah Christian. It was a sweep for the teams from the southside.

Savannah Country Day girls defeated Calvary Day 44-37 while the boys rolled past Savannah Christian 54-32. In Savannah Country Day School basketball programs' history, the victories marked the first time that both teams were the same year's Regional Champions.

The Lady Hornets scored their 8th Region Championship in girls' basketball history while the boys broke a 50-year drought and got their second overall region title, the first since 1969-70. The boys were Region 3A East Champions 2018-19 and 2019-20.

After the victory, second-year Head Boys Coach Demetrius Smith stated, "This is a tremendous accomplishment for our program and school. Fifty-one years of hard work! Congratulations to all the players and coaches of the past."

The Lady Hornets Head Coach Amy Brooks credited the Hornets defense for their success. "Winning the championship game last night over Calvary was great for our program. They are an outstanding team. Our team defense has been a huge focus for our program since October 26th, and it showed last night. We are excited to host a state playoff game and continue to play together," said Brooks.

Winning the region title means both teams will get a number one seed and host  GHSA State Tournament's game on February 26 or 27.
