Savannah's Will Doyle, a junior at Benedictine Military School, posted a score of 1-under par 71 in the first round to lead the Boys 15-18 age gropu at the Savannah Junior Golf Association's Tim O'Neal Pereverance Cup event being played at the Deer Creek course at the Landings Club June 22-23.
Doyle, who won a Georgia State Golf Association one-day event in Dublin, Ga., last week, made six birdies en route to the only score under par in the tournament's first round. Doyle holds a two-stroke lead over Savannah's Morris Lane, a senior at St. Andrew's School who finished with a 1-over par 73.
In the Girls 15-18 group, Savannah's Maya Lilja-Vazquez ended with a score of 3-over par 75 to lead by 11 strokes over Ella Kate Woods from Statesboro, Ga., and Savannah's Ainsley Sheffield. In the Boys 11-14 age group, Savannah's Zach Dao leads after a first-round score of 4-over 76, and Richmond Hill's Shayna Patel leads the Girls 11-14 age group after one round.
