The holiday season in Savannah, Georgia, has a rich tradition of holiday high school basketball tournaments dating back to the 1970's. Two take place this weekend: the 9th annual Savannah Chatham County Public Schools System (SCCPSS) Holiday Classic and the 2nd annual Savannah Christian Preparatory School (SCPS) Classic. Both showcases feature an exhibition highlighting some of the best teams from Georgia and neighboring states. They will tip off tonight at various locations and continue on Saturday.

The SCCPSS Holiday Classic returns with its new showcase-style format, which debuted last year. This format eliminates traditional brackets, resulting in championship games. This year's event will feature games at three SCCPSS school gyms—Beach High School, Jenkins High School, and Savannah High School—on Friday, December 20, and Saturday, December 21.

Meanwhile, the Savannah Christian Classic adds to the festivities with its second edition, hosted at Savannah Christian Preparatory School. The Classic will feature girls' and boys' teams battling it out on Friday and Saturday in another exciting showcase-style format.
