Islands High School alum shines: Kalen DeLoach Co-MVP for FSU football

Former standout football player from Islands High School, Savannah, Georgia, Kalen DeLoach has been recognized as co-defensive most valuable player for the Florida State University football team. Yesterday, FSU announced the awards for the 2023 season, naming linebacker Kalen DeLoach and teammate defensive end Jared Verse as the Defensive MVPs.

                                                            

 

In his three years as a starter for the Noles, DeLoach consistently showcased outstanding defensive skills and big plays. His final season with the Seminoles was no exception, marked by a truly remarkable performance highlighted by impressive statistics: 66 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, 7 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 1 interception, 2 pass deflections, and 1 defensive touchdown. DeLoach is the first linebacker to have 7 sacks in a season since 1993 via seminoles.com.

Jared Verse (#5), earning the honor of defensive MVP for the second consecutive year, contributed significantly to Florida State's defensive prowess. He accumulated 41 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, 9 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, and 3 pass deflections during the season.
