Local Standouts BC Scroggins, Bethesda McKay, and Richmond Hill HS Matthews Secure Future with Team Commitments

It has been a big week for three exceptional athletes who have recently revealed their plans to pursue their athletic careers at the college level. Herbert "Third" Scroggins from Benedictine Military School, Jacari McKay from Bethesda Academy, and MaKiyah Matthews from Richmond Hill High School have all made decisions that signal the beginning of their academics and athletics at the next level. Where are they going?

 

Third Scroggins, Benedictine Military School rising senior Commits to Miami

Herbert "Third" Scroggins, a 4 star rated edge/linebacker and a rising senior at Benedictine Military School, announced his choice to join Miami during an committment event held at the BC gym on June 28, 2024. Standing 6 feet 2 inches and weighing 235 pounds, he received offers from  Auburn, North Carolina, Georgia Tech and Miami. Despite these offers he recieved interest from other programs such as Alabama, Tennessee, and USC. Scroggins ultimately opted for Miami. He played a crucial role in BC Class 4A state title wins. Last season, he recorded 84 tackles, 11 quarterback sacks, and 14 quarterback hurries and was a big part of BC's defense that reached the state semifinals.

Jacari McKay, Bethesda Academy Blazers basketball, Signed with the University of Fort Lauderdale.

McKay recently graduated from Bethesda Academy and announced that he would play basketball at the University of Fort Lauderdale next fall. He made it official on June 27, 2024, in a ceremony at Bethesda Academy gym. Jacari scored an average of 14.1 points per game during his senior year, with 6.2 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game. These stats earned him South Carolina Independent Schools Association all-state and all-region honors. McKay was a key player in the basketball program at Bethesda Academy and is excited for the next stage of his basketball journey.

 

 

MaKiyah Matthews, Richmond Hill High School Lady Wildcats Basketball Committed to Augusta University

MaKiyah Matthews, a recent Richmond Hill High School graduate who played point guard for the Lady Wildcats, has decided to continue her education and basketball career at Augusta University. Matthews, who scored over 1,000 points during her high school career, has been an outstanding player for RHHS since she made the varsity team as a freshman. She officially committed to Augusta University in front of friends, family, and former teammates at her signing event in the Richmond Hill High School gym on Wednesday, June 26, 2024.
