One of the best basketball players at Memorial Day School is attending  the NCAA College Basketball Academy in Memphis, Tennessee, this week. Matas Aidietis, a rising senior at Memorial Day School, was one of only 19 rising seniors picked from Georgia to participate.

He will participate in the NCAA College Basketball Academy from July 24 to 27, 2023. At the NCAA College Hoops Academy, players will experience what it's like to play hoops in college.

Aidietis, a 6-7 foreign exchange student from Lithuania, helped Memorial Day School win the Georgia Independent Schools Association Class 1A 2023 boys' basketball championship. The Matadors beat  Monsignor Donovan, 54-48, for the title.

The players follow the program set by the Academy. The schools will give future men's and women's college basketball players a taste of what it's like to play in college. These summer development NCAA academies teach life skills along with high-level basketball games. When asked what Matas would get from attending this camp, Memorial Day School basketball Head Coach Dale Mock said this.

"The NCAA College Basketball Academy is a combination of high level, competitive games and daily Life Skills classes," said Mock. "The camp has offered Matas the opportunity to compete with some of the best players in the country. "

The men's basketball coaches on the staff of the Academy come from Divisions II and III, the NAIA, junior colleges, and high schools. During this time, the College Basketball Academy is the only event NCAA Division I coaches can attend to evaluate talent.
