Number One Fan: Patty Canady Fuels Calvary Baseball

On spring nights at Calvary Day baseball games, when the lights come on, and the first pitch smacks into the catcher’s glove, there’s one person you can always count on seeing in the stands. Patty Canady is there, cheering for her Cavaliers from the first crack of the bat until the scoreboard shuts down.

“I’ve been here since 1986, and I have been able to talk to lots of middle school and high schoolers,” said Canady. “I also taught kindergarten for 36 years.”

Being a part of the Calvary family for so long has allowed Mrs. Canady to build connections with many students, but she has a special bond with the baseball team.

“It’s one of the biggest blessings I’ve had here at Calvary,” Canady said. “And that’s saying a lot, because I’ve had a lot of blessings here in 40 years.”

She sticks with her Cavs through thick and thin. Whether it’s a tough loss or celebrating a state championship in 2025, Canady shows her school spirit and connects with the players, especially the seniors.

Senior Quinn Johnson showed appreciation for her support. “Miss Patty was always at our games, through the best days when we won a state championship, and through the tough days when we lost games we shouldn’t have, she was always there.”

For the players, her presence is more than just support.

“Mrs. Canady always reminds you of a mother figure,” said head coach Jakob Gross. “It’s nice to have someone there who, no matter what, is always going to support you.”

That kind of support helps players take a step back, relax, and enjoy the game.

Her love for Calvary baseball started years ago when her son played in the program.

“My son was a baseball player for Calvary,” Canady said. “He played middle school and high school as a second baseman and graduated in 1999.”

Her connection to the program has continued long after her son graduated, and her presence has become a constant for the team.

As the Cavs make a push in the playoffs, seeing Canady in the stands gives them an extra boost.

Senior shortstop Dalton Kelley said her support is something he feels in every game. “I think her support really keeps me going. I don’t want to fall short and disappoint her. I want to make her proud.”

When Calvary takes the field on any given gameday, Canady will be in the stands like she always is. For the Cavaliers, that consistency means more than anything on the stat sheet.
