The second week of high school football in the Savannah area is over and in the record books! There were several big wins and tough losses. Here is a quick recap and final scores.
Savannah Christian 35, New Hampstead 7
Savannah Christian's run game again led the way as the Raiders defeated New Hampstead in a much-anticipated matchup. Senior running back Smalls rushed for 187 yards and three touchdowns, while the Raiders' defense held the Phoenix to just 27 yards rushing. SCPS asserted dominance on its home turf, Pooler Stadium.
Richmond Hill 31, Glynn Academy 12
Richmond Hill's ground game dominated Glynn Academy as the Wildcats rushed for 420 yards and four touchdowns. Senior Caleb Easterling led the way with 146 yards and two scores on five carries. The Wildcats defense also came up big, with Aiden Grant blocking two extra points and Lee Johnson recording nine tackles.
Beach 41, Savannah High 0
Beach bounced back from last week's loss with a dominant win over Savannah High. QB Chandler Reid threw for 148 yards and two touchdowns in his first start. The Bulldogs' defense also shined, with James Johnson returning an interception for a touchdown.
Windsor Forest 20, Brantley County 8
In C.J. Frazier's debut as head coach, Windsor Forest secured a road victory over Brantley County. Jayden Thomas sealed the win with a 40-yard interception return for a touchdown, while QB Anthony Williams contributed nearly 200 yards of total offense and a touchdown pass to Jaysen Jackson.
Benedictine 28, Buford 29
Benedictine went toe-to-toe with top-ranked Buford but fell short in a thrilling 29-28 contest. QB Stephen Cannon led the Cadets with a strong performance, scoring two touchdowns, including an 11-yard run that gave BC a late lead. However, Buford's Dayton Raiola connected with Ethan Ervin for a last-minute touchdown, and a successful two-point conversion sealed the game for the Wolves. BC turns its attention to next week's home game against Burke County.
Houston County 44, Effingham County 41
Effingham County staged a furious late-game comeback but fell short against Houston County. Trailing 37-20 with seven minutes left, quarterback Tucker Perkins led the Rebels on a rally, throwing three touchdown passes. Despite the effort, the Rebels couldn't complete the comeback.
Thomas Heyward 42, Bethesda Academy 31
Bethesda Academy struggled with special teams errors, giving up two kickoff returns for touchdowns. QB Luke Larson threw for 226 yards and three touchdowns but also had four interceptions. Despite the mistakes, Bethesda showed a fight, with Malachi Morris catching two touchdown passes and Assir Best returning a fumble 100 yards for a score.
