SAVANNAH — Six Savannah-area golfers turned in strong performances at the Georgia State Golf Association (GSGA) 61st Georgia Junior Championship Qualifier on June 8 at Crosswinds Golf Club, led by Kohki Maeda's winning round of 68.

Maeda fired a 4-under-par 68 to win the qualifier and earn a spot in one of Georgia's premier junior golf tournaments.

He led a strong showing by local golfers as Morris Lane of Savannah, Caden Hartley of Pooler, Adler Saxton of Guyton, Jacob Tasney of Guyton, and Carson Hayes of Savannah also qualified for the championship, which will be held July 6-8 at Coosa Country Club in Rome.

Lane, Hartley, and Saxton each shot 1-under-par 71 to finish tied for third. Tasney carded an even-par 72 to finish tied for sixth, while Hayes shot a 3-over-par 75 to earn one of the final qualifying spots.

Savannah's Finn Nixon narrowly missed qualifying but finished as the first alternate after shooting a 75. If a player withdraws from the championship field, Nixon would be the first player called to compete.

The qualifier featured 12 championship spots and four alternate positions.
