The Savannah Sports Council will award two $1,500 scholarships and two $1,000 scholarships to male and female student athletes enrolled in a Chatham County school, the organization announced earlier this week.
Applicants can register by visiting the council’s website at www.savannahsportscouncil.com or use tis direct link http://www.savannahsportscouncil.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/savannah-sports-council-scholarship-application-prepared.pdf. The deadline to apply for the scholarships is April 16.
Eligible student athletes can be enrolled at either a public school or private school, but the students must be enrolled and participating in interscholastic athletics at a Chatham County School. He or she must be a senior, graduating during the 2020-21 academic year.
The purpose of the SSC scholarships is to award students that have best demonstrated excellence in the classroom, community, and athletics. Robert Wells is the Executive Director of the Savannah Sports Council, which is also responsible for such Savannah’s annual sporting event staples like the EnMarket Savannah Hockey Classic, Savannah Bridge Run and Publix Savannah Women’s Half Marathons among others.
Recipients of the scholarships must be enrolled at an institution of higher learning by and during October 1, 2021 which is when the scholarship will be paid. Recipients must also be able to attend the Georgia Power Sports Award Banquet on May 11, 2021 at noon.
