The Savannah United 08 Girls Premier soccer team made history again in 2022.
In 2021, the team was the youngest team in coastal Georgia to claim a Georgia State Cup championship. This season, the 08 Premier girls became the first soccer team in coastal Georgia history to win back-to-back Georgia State Cup titles.
This year’s State Cup run saw them win all three of their group stage games leading into the finals. The 08 Premier girls won 4-0 over Georgia Storm 08G Elite GPL on April 23, 4-1 over Macon SC 2008G Elite R3/NL on April 24 and 1-0 over Georgia Impact SC 08G Elite R3/NL on April 30.
The Final was a rematch against Georgia Impact played on May 14 at MOBA Soccer Complex in Peachtree City and was a thrilling championship game. The game’s only goal was scored less than two minutes into the second half by Savannah United’s Iris Turner with an assist from Emma Dresback, and the final score ended 1-0.
By winning the State Cup, the Savannah 08 team has clinched a spot in the USYS Southern Regionals in Murfreesboro, Tennessee for the second year in a row. That tournament will take place June 24-29.
