The St. Andrew’s Lions Volleyball team showed up when it mattered most, claiming the GIAA 2AAA Region Championship with a commanding 3-0 win over Valwood.
It was a big day for the Lions, who had already defeated Westminster 2-0 earlier to punch their ticket to the championship match. The sweep of Valwood was especially satisfying, coming a day after a pool play loss to the same team. Instead of letting that setback linger, the Lions regrouped, refocused, and turned the rematch into a display of resilience, teamwork, and championship-level execution.
The production came from all over the court. Khloe Jesswein led the way with 16 kills and 4 blocks, dominating at the net and keeping the offense moving. Grace Dare ran the floor with 27 assists and added 8 digs, making sure the Lions’ offense stayed in rhythm from start to finish.
Ryan McGee chipped in 4 kills, 10 digs, and 4 blocks, while Makenna Riley added 5 kills, 7 digs, and a block, contributing both offensively and defensively. On the service line, Caroline Lawrence kept the pressure on with 4 aces, 14 service points, and 4 blocks, while Lyleigh Bradshaw added 2 aces and 7 digs, helping stabilize serve-receive play.
Defensively, the Lions never let Valwood get comfortable. Clean serve-receive, timely blocks, and relentless back-row play shut down any momentum and kept the championship in St. Andrew’s hands.
With the Region title secured, St. Andrew’s moves to 18-11 overall. The school now awaits official seeding ahead of the GIAA State Tournament, which is set to begin on Saturday, October 4. Time and location are still TBD.
Final Scores on the Day:
- St. Andrew’s 2, Westminster 0
- St. Andrew’s 3, Valwood 0
