St. Andrew's pulled off a thrilling 72-63 overtime victory tonight against Evans High School in the opening round of the Monterey Christmas Tournament hosted by Evans. While the game was a back and forth battle in the opening quarter, Evans (6-4) came out strong in the second quarter and opened up a 36-24 lead with 2:17 left in the first half. However, the Lions (8-2) fought back and went on an 11 point run to finish the first half.

Evans held the lead for the entire second half, but St. Andrew's never let them get more than 6 points ahead. With 14 seconds left in regulation, Taj Ford of Evans was fouled and sent to the free-throw line for a 1-and-1. He missed the first shot, and Kaleb Lofton grabbed the rebound and passed it ahead to Zayden Edwards, who made a layup with 8 seconds left to tie the game. With Evans missing its final shot, the game headed to overtime. St. Andrew's dominated overtime with a smothering defense that did not allow Evans to score any points, leading to their eventual victory.

Zyere Edwards tied the Knights Devin Story for the game-high in points, with both players scoring 27 points. Zayden Edwards and Kaleb Lofton both registered double-doubles for the game. Edwards scored 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, while Lofton piled in 21 points to go along with his ten boards.

The win advances St. Andrew's to the second round of the tournament, facing the Academy of Richmond County. The game tips off tonight at 8:30 pm.

St. Andrew's (72): Zyere Edwards 27, Kaleb Lofton 21, Zayden Edwards 15, Conley 7, Knapp 2

Evans (63): Devin Story 27, Taj Ford 11, James 7, Walton 5, Caldwell 4, Merriweather 2, Williams 2
