SAVANNAH, GA — St. Andrew’s School has been awarded a $5,000 grant for its girls flag football program from The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, in partnership with the Atlanta Falcons.
The funding is part of an initiative to help schools launch new girls flag football programs or strengthen existing ones.
St. Andrew’s has fielded a girls flag football team since 2022, and the program has continued to grow in both participation and development. The grant will be used to purchase new equipment aimed at enhancing training and supporting player development.

The program is led by faculty members David Nash and Kristin Peney, who have implemented a five-year plan focused on building a competitive team within the region.
“This group of girls playing flag football is incredible,” Nash said. “Their empathy, positive attitude, and leadership have transformed the team from one of the youngest and most inexperienced in the league into a highly competitive program.”
Girls flag football is one of the fastest-growing sports in the United States and is scheduled to be included in the 2028 Summer Olympics.
“We are proud to support opportunities that empower our students to grow as athletes and leaders,” Head of School Dr. Kelley Waldron said. “This grant strengthens our athletics program and reinforces our commitment to providing meaningful, confidence-building experiences for our students.”
