St. Andrew's senior swimmer Gaby Van Brunt made a splash again as she three-peated her career as a swimming champion at the Georgia Independent Athletic Association (GIAA) state championships swim meet at the Georgia Tech Aquatics Center yesterday, February 2. Van Burnt brought home three more gold medals; she has done this for the third year in a row!
In her high school career, Van Burnt has earned eleven gold medals (first-place finishes), the last three years winning three gold medals yearly. Furthermore, she breaks one of her GIAA state swimming records every year. This year she broke her previous record in the 100yd Butterfly by finishing first with a time of 53.03. Abby also finished first in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstrokes.
When the St. Andrew's swim season is over, Van Burnt competes for the Georgia Coastal Aquatic Team (GCAT). At age 13, Van Brunt set a record as the youngest swimmer to qualify for the Olympic Trials. She could not compete because of the COVID-19 pandemic. A year later, on June 6, 2021, Van Burnt went to Omaha, Nebraska, to compete and finished fifth in her heat. Gaby committed to swim collegiately at the University of Alabama as a junior in October 2021. She signed her National Letter of Intent on November 30, 2022, to make it official.
