St. Vincent's Academy Announces New Religion Teacher & Soccer Coach

St. Vincent’s Academy is excited to welcome Katie Knight as both Religion Teacher and Soccer Coach! Mrs. Katie Knight earned her bachelor’s degree from California Polytechnic State University and her master’s degree from California University of Pennsylvania. Katie served as the Campus Ministry Team leader at Benedictine Military Academy from 2017 -2020. She has been an active leader in confirmation boot camp at St. Peter the Apostle Church where she is also a lector. Katie has been an active participant in her husband’s Deaconate training over the past 5 years. She has also served as an extraordinary minister in Alabama and Hawaii. Katie is excited about her position at SVA. She states, “I believe that I can share the love of our faith in a way that the students at SVA can tie it to their everyday lives. My goal is to help them understand their faith but also love their faith. I want to be a role model and mentor to the young women at SVA.

Coach Katie has been involved with soccer in some capacity for over 35 years. She grew up playing in the California Premier leagues and attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Coach Katie has coached at the recreational, intramural, club, Olympic Development Program, and middle/high school level for sixteen years. She has coached both boys and girls from the ages of six to 18 years old. Coach Katie was on the coaching staff of the Hawaii Olympic Development Program. Her ODP team was the first Hawaii girls’ team to win the Region Championships. In 2017, Coach Katie joined the Benedictine Military School soccer program as a strength and conditioning coach, and Junior Varsity Co-Coach, and was a part of their 2017/18 state championship, 2018/19 final four run, and 2019/20 season before it being cut short by the COVID-19 crisis. She is also an assistant coach for the BC JROTC Raider Challenge team that just won its first state championship in the fall of 2019.

Coach Katie has been living in Savannah for six years. She and her husband, Kevin, Theology Department Head at Benedictine, are both veterans of the U.S. Army. They have one son, Austin, who just graduated from BC and will be attending the University of Tennessee on a four-year Army ROTC scholarship.

Coach Katie holds multiple soccer coaching licenses which include the USSF National D License, NSCAA State and Regional Goalkeeping Diploma, and the United Soccer Coaches National, Advanced National, and Premier Diplomas. She is also a certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor, and carries multiple specializations to include Performance Enhancement, Corrective Exercise, and Youth Fitness.

DeMasi has been involved in the Savannah Area sports scene since 1995, and he created the high school magazine "The Prep Sports Report" in 2000. In 2010, the "Coach" started broadcasting The Karl DeMasi Sports Report. He's still going strong, broadcasting on Facebook live and Twitter live every Saturday morning. You gotta love it!
