Threlkeld, Hayes earn high finishes at SJGT event

Savannah's Hamp Threlkeld and Carson Hayes both contended and finished in the top 5 at the Southeastern Junior Golf Tour West Lake Junior Classic played June June 24-25 at West Lake Country Club in Augusta, Ga.

Threlkeld, a rising junior at Benedictine Military School, carded scores of 73-76 to finish the tournament 5-over par and T4 in the Boys 16-19 age group with Blake Spivey from Canton, Ga. Pooler's Caden Hartley finsihed the tournament at 7-over par in eighth place after rounds of 75-78.

In the Boys 12-13 age group, Hayes led after the first round score of 2-over 75. In the second round, Hayes posted 6-over par 79 to finish 8-over for the tournament in second place after Kevin Fields from Milton, Ga., put together a score of 3-under 70 to finish 4-over and win the age group.
