Pauly Seeley threw for 196 yards and three touchdowns to lead his New Hampstead Phoenix to a 27-10 win in a non-region game versus Bradwell Institute on Friday, September 2 at Pooler Stadium.
New Hampstead (3-0) has started 3-0 for a second straight season under head coach Kyle Hockman and the Phoenix erased an early first quarter deficit on Friday to win going away on Homecoming.
Bradwell (0-3) opened the game with a slow, methodical drive that lasted nine minutes and took 24 plays. It resulted in a 27-yard field goal by Jedidiah Samuel which gave the Tigers an early 3-0 lead before New Hampstead ever touched the rock.
The deficit didn’t seem to bother Seeley. His Phoenix outscored the Tigers 27-7 from that point on. For Hockman’s team, the win came despite his team being flagged 11 times in total. Bradwell was called for six penalties.
A Wofford commit, Seeley threw two touchdowns in the following drives and gave his Phoenix a 14-3 halftime lead. His first TD toss was an eight-yard lob to a wide open Jalen Hampton and the second was a 15-yard strike to the back edge of the endzone caught by Malachi Lonnon. In the third, Seeley found sophomore Kamari Maxwell on a 25-yard pass for another Phoenix touchdown.
Dhamani Alex iced the game for New Hampstead when he intercepted a pass in the endzone midway through the fourth, and running back Kaleb Smith was excellent in the second half, helping to keep the clock running for Hockman’s club.
Smith carried 15 times for 104 yards – 89 after halftime. His third quarter rushing touchdown came from three yards out and moved the score to 27-7.
Hampton and Zion Griffin had four catches each to lead a NHHS receiving group which saw six different players make a catch. Hampton had 97 yards and the touchdown while Griffin tallied 32 yards. Maxwell logged two receptions for 31 yards. He had a 76-yard kick return for a touchdown called back in the second half because of a referee interference call.
On defense, NHHS got a great effort from Aaziah Scott. The junior nose tackle had seven tackles, including two sacks and three tackles for a loss.
Bradwell quarterback Christopher Garrett was solid in the first half before having to come out for an injury for a majority of the second half. The Tigers leaned on Jamal Leonard, who tallied four catches for 47 yards and a touchdown, as well as an interception from his defensive back position.
The Phoenix will play an out-of-state game next week at South Lake (Florida). Should New Hampstead win in Florida, the Phoenix program will move its all-time record to 42-42 after the its first season of play in 2014.
