Richmond Hill's Tripp West finished a roller coaster ride with a score of 1-under 71 in the first round of the Savannah Junior Golf Association presented by First Tee - Savannah tournament being played August 1-2 at the Oakridge course at the Landings Golf & Athletic Club.
The 7th grader leads the boys 8-13 age group by seven strokes over Savannah's Creighton Jue, who was the only other player to break 80 in the age group in the first round. West made six birdies during his round but also absorbed three bogeys and a double bogey before playing his final seven holes in 3-under par to break par.
In the Boys 14-18 age group played from the back tees at Oakride, Savannah's Morris Lane, a 2026 graduate of St. Andrew's School who will play college golf at Savannah College of Art & Design, is tied atop the leaderboard with Richmond Hill's Sahaj Patel, a sophomore at Savannah Country Day School, after both posted scores of 7-over 79. Savannah's Patrick Mahoney, a junior at Benedictine Military School, is only one stroke behind Morris and Patel, and Patrick Mahoney's twin brother, Cooper Mahoney, is only two strokes behind the leaders.
In the Girls 14-18 age group, Savannah's Savannah Lane carries a 6-stroke lead over Savannah's Maya Lilja-Vazquez into the second round. And Savannah's Emma Parker leads the Girls 8-13 age group following a solid first round.
