It's the inaugural Georgia High School State Association girl's flag football playoffs have reached the Final Four round. The Savannah area had two teams make it to the elite eight round. They were Calvary Day School and Richmond Hill High School. Only one prevailed to move on to the Final Four, Calvary Day School.

Friday night, Richmond Hill traveled to  Columbus, Georgia, to battle Northside Columbus High School. The Wildcats put up a great fight but lost 12-0. Richmond Hill's Maddie Ward had an extraordinary performance with two interceptions on defense. The Wildcats finish with a 5-3 overall record for their inaugural flag football season.

On Saturday, the Lady Cavaliers of Calvary Day School hosted  Harris County at the Specialty Sports Complex right here in Savannah, Georgia. The game was tied in the first half 0-0, a big-time defensive battle between the Lady Tigers and Lady Cavaliers.

Finally, Calvary gets on the scoreboard first with 10 minutes left in the game. Mahkayla Premo took a direct snap and tossed the football back to center Emma Crosby for the touchdown, 6-0 Lady Cavs (all players are eligible to receive a pass no matter where they line up). Premo again took the snap for the point-after try and converted it for a 7-0 lead that would hold up to be the final score. Harris County could not score with one minute to go in the game and turned the ball over on the Calvary 25 yard line on downs. The Calvary defense shut down the Harris County offense the whole second half and move on to the GHSA State Flag Football Playoff semifinals.

"The girls are having a lot of fun, and the first year being this successful, it's something we didn't expect because it's the first season ever," said Athletic Director and Coach Chad Griffin. "We are looking forward to next Wednesday in Atlanta, and hopefully, other schools see how much fun we are having. They will start up their flag football programs next year also."

With the win, Calvary advances to the Class A-5A semifinals on Wednesday, December 23rd, at the Home Depot Backyard behind Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The Lady Cavaliers (6-0-2) will meet Northside Columbus (7-5) at 1:30 pm, with a state championship appearance on the line.

To note, the Georgia High School State Association Football championships will kick off Monday, December 28th at 1:30 pm. The GHSA Girl's Flag Football championship games kick it all off at Georgia State University Pac Park.
