The Georgia High School Association state golf tournaments are being played at locations throughout Georgia May 19-20, and several teams from the Coastal Empire have qualified to compete for the ultimate prize.
Class AAAAAA Boys & Girls
Qualifers: Richmond Hill High School boys and girls teams
Venue: Kinderlou Forest Golf Club
Boys roster: Ledger Conley, Patrick Mahaffey, Mathew Reynolds, Will McNeely, Chase Marquez, Noah Bope
Girls Roster: Alexa Mohler, Amanda Puchales, Isabella Romine, Savannah Macomber, Carigan Kicklighter
Richmond Hill's boys and girls bring plenty of firepower to the Class AAAAAA state championship. Conley and Mahffey, who just qualified for the Georgia Amateur Championship, can both go low for the boys, and Mohler and Puchales have teamed to win several tournaments for the girls.
Class AAAAA Girls
Qualifers: Natalie Altman, Effingham County High School
Venue: Sea island Golf Club Retreat Course
Altman posted a score of 85 in the Class AAAAA Area 1 tournament to qualify.
Class AAAA Boys
Qualifers: Benedictine Military School
Venue: Governors Towne Club (Acworth, Ga.)
Roster: Bear Dollander, Hamp Threlkeld, Chad Chadwell, Jack Weeks, Heath Kulp, Alex Dao, Colby Brennan.
The Cadets won the Class AAAA Area 1 championship and claimed wins in the Granger Classic and The 1902 Cadet Cup. Dollander is one of the top ranked juniors in the country and has an under-par scoring average for the season. Threlkeld, Chadwell and Weeks are all threats to go low as well.
Class AA Girls
Qualifers: Maya Lilja-Vazquez (Savannah Arts Academy)
Venue: Maple Ridge Golf Club (Columbus, Ga.)
Lilja-Vazquez posted a score of 77 at the Class AA Area 2 tournament to finish runner up and qualfiy for the state tournament.
Class A Division 2 Boys and Girls
Qualifers: Bryan County High School boys and girls
Venue: Bartram Trail Golf Club (Evans, Ga.)
Girls Roster: Lacey Howell, Ava Connolly, McKenna Reagan, Brooklyn Cason.
Boys Roster: Trevor Lanier, Conner Fennel, Alex Asselin, Jacob Williams, Brody Gunter, Maddox Raulerson, Logan Sehr
Bryan County's girls and boys finished third in the Class AA Area 2 tournament to qualify for the state tournament. Bryan County’s Senior Lacey Howell leads the girls after posting multiple top-five finishes this season. Ava Connolly and McKenna Reagan join her. The boys are led by Trevor Lanier, who shot a season-best 74, and Conner Fennel and freshman Maddox Raulerson, who has three top-10 finishes this year.
GHSA Private Boys
Qualifers: Savannah Country Day School
Venue: Twin City Country Club (Tennille, Ga.)
Boys Roster: Caden Hartley, Kohki Maeda, Charles Morris, Hunter Goldstein, Thomas Claiborne, Noah Goldstein
Junior Caden Hartley carded a 34 this spring in a match with SCPS. Freshman Kohki Maeda has been strongt, shooting 71 at the Area 1 Private Championship to help the team finish second overall. The team, is led by senior captain Hunter Goldstein.
GHSA Private Girls
Qualifers: Savannah Christian Preparatory School
Venue: Twin City Country Club (Tennille, Ga.)
Roster: Ava Cottis, Caroline Burroughs, Charlotte Goodman.
The Raiders finished third at the Area 1-Private Tournament at Crosswinds Golf Club, which earned them a spot in the GHSA Private State Championship. Earlier in the season, they won their 10th Savannah High School Championship. Savannah Christian came into the year as the three-year straight champions, back-to-back Class AAA state champions in 2024, 2023, and Class A in 2022.
Qualifer: Savannah Country Day School Roster, Kate Barber
Savannah Country Day senior Kate Barber had her regular season, where she posted a 1-over 73 to finish as runner-up at the Area 1 Private School Championship held at Crosswinds Golf Club to qualify for state. Barber, who signed with Auburn University in November 2024.
