Savannah, Ga. — The Coastal Georgia Track Club’s 13-14 girls relay team delivered not one, but two national championships at the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships held at Savannah State University, capturing the 4x400m and 4x100m relay titles in front of a hometown crowd.

On Friday night, July 25, the “Fantastic Four” blazed to a 3:55.12 finish in the 4x400-meter relay final, setting a personal best and outrunning 37 elite teams. Less than 24 hours later, they backed it up with a flawless performance in the 4x100-meter relay, clocking in at 47.43 seconds for another gold and a second PR.
The 4x400 squad featured Kyla Shuman (South Effingham), who gave the team an early lead with a strong first leg; Jermani Griffin (Southwest Middle) and Jamaika Sumpter (Bradwell Institute), who held position and maintained the momentum in the second and third legs; and anchor Trinity Perine (Richmond Hill), who sealed the win by storming back from a 15-meter deficit and clocking a 55.3 split—fastest in the division.
“Kyla’s opening leg set the tone,” said Taylor. “Then Trinity took control on the anchor leg. Her comeback brought the whole stadium alive.”
The following day, the same group came back even stronger in the 4x100m relay, claiming another national title with a personal-best time of 47.43 seconds. As highlighted on the team’s Instagram page, their handoffs were smooth and seamless, showcasing the chemistry and trust they’ve built through months of hard work.
“We had our eyes set on this goal since fall training in September,” said Head Coach Isiah Taylor. “They stayed resilient through ups and downs and trusted the process. I'm so proud of them you know when they started his journey back and fall training in September, you know they continue to be resilient throughout the entire season with the ups and downs and you know we had our eyes settle on his goal for the entire season that they trusted the process and reeped the benefits of their homework.”
