SPRINGFIELD, Ga. – Effingham County's High School senior Nathaniel Hayes Jr. was announced last week as one of twelve national finalists for the prestigious Heisman High School Scholarship, awarded annually by the Heisman Memorial Trophy Trust. The scholarship honors outstanding high school seniors who excel in athletics, academics, and community leadership.

Hayes is an outstanding student athlete involved in football, baseball, and student leadership. He is also an active community member, volunteering his time to coach youth sports and mentor at-risk youth.

In July, sports reporter Nathan Dominitz wrote a story for the Prep Sports Report about why Hayes is an exceptional student/athlete. Click the highlighted headline below to find Nate's outstanding high school student/athlete accomplishments.

Effingham County High School's Nate Hayes Jr. is a "TOTAL PACKAGE" Student and athlete.

As the Heisman High School Scholarship Georgia State Male Winner, Hayes is the only Georgia student/athlete named a national finalist for the Heisman High School Scholarship this year. Each national finalist will receive a $2,000 scholarship.

From these 12 finalists, two outstanding high school seniors will be awarded a $10,000 college scholarship as National Winners of the Heisman High School Scholarship.

These top scholars will be evaluated by a judging panel that will carefully consider each finalist's application and select the two individuals, a male and a female, who exemplify the Heisman High School Scholarship ideals of excellence, character, and leadership.
