From the first pitch to the final whistle, Savannah-Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS) middle school athletes delivered a spring season to remember. With undefeated seasons, playoff upsets, and championship clashes under the lights, the 2025 spring sports calendar showcased rising talent and school pride across the district.
TIMA is coming full circle
Tybee Island, Maritime Academy (TIMA) finished a perfect baseball season with a commanding 8-1 win over Hesse in the 2025 SCCPSS Middle School Baseball Championship, ending their year at 10-0. Hesse, who entered the postseason with an 8-1 record, concluded the season at 8-2. TIMA Athletic Director Noel Ingram stated what the championship meant to the school and community.
"The playoff run and championship experience brought this team and our program full circle. As Tybee Island Maritime Academy enters its third full year of middle school and athletics, this year represents a major milestone—our first group of student-athletes to grow entirely within our program. Watching them compete, persevere, and ultimately succeed has been rewarding for everyone involved," stated Ingram. "These student-athletes are laying the foundation for future generations to follow. In just a short time, we've celebrated four championships—two in softball and two in baseball. These victories go far beyond the scoreboard. They've helped build a sense of pride, unity, and identity across our campus. We are a small, but mighty!"
The road to the title included a semifinal doubleheader at Paulson Stadium on Monday, May 5. Top-seeded TIMA (8-0) defeated No. 4 Coastal (5-3) in the first game. In the second semifinal, No. 2 West Chatham (8-1) faced No. 3 Hesse (8-1). Hesse advanced to the title game.

Garrison and STEM met in the Girls Soccer Championship on Wednesday, May 7, at Islands Stadium, where Garrison claimed the title with a 5-0 win, finishing a perfect 8-0 season. STEM ended 7-1. The championship marked a milestone for Garrison, and Head Coach Jamie Salas reflected on what the win meant for the program's future.
"For us, finally getting over the hurdle and winning the championship was huge for confidence. It helps motivate the next group and rising 6th graders to work harder to maintain that level of play," said Salas.

STEM Boy's soccer hardwork means undefeated
STEM remained unbeaten and clinched the championship with a win over Hubert, closing the season at 8-0, while Hubert finished 7-1. STEM boys' head coach Heather Ogle echoed that same pride and unity, emphasizing how much the playoff run meant to the players and the broader school community.
"Soccer is a sport that brings a lot of our community together. For our community, our students are spread all over the district, so it is awesome when we can have something everyone wants to come together on. Making it to the playoffs is always an honor and exciting for my boys," said Ogle. Ogle also felt the team was serious about playing and working hard to succeed this season.
"They are very serious about competing and honestly enjoy working hard – they have never shied away from a challenge. Here at STEM, we love every opportunity to bring new trophies into the building, so that competitive spirit runs through the kids as much as the adults. Even though they have had a lot of success on and off the field, they have stayed humble, and it has been truly a pleasure to work with them the last two years," stated Ogle.
