Which Savannah Area teams made the cut to the GHSA Elite 8 and Sweet 16 Rounds in softball and volleyball?
Six Savannah Area volleyball teams competed in the Georgia High School Association Sweet 16 round of the GHSA state playoffs on Saturday, Oct. 19. Three teams advanced, and three saw their seasons end.
This past week, the GHSA Softball State Playoffs stepped up to the plate with a first-round playoff series. South Effingham and Effingham County advanced to the Sweet 16 round, while Richmond Hill, Islands, and St. Vincent's seasons ended. Local teams now prepare for second-round matchups, with South Effingham and Calvary Day set to host, while Effingham County and Savannah Christian hit the road. Below are the results and who the team's advancing play.
Volleyball - Sweet 16 Round
Class 5A
- Effingham (28-16) lost to Habersham Central (28-12), 3-1
- Effingham eliminated
Class 3A
- Islands High (20-16) lost to Calhoun (19-23), 3-0
- Islands eliminated
Class 2A
- No. 2 seed Savannah Arts (26-15) defeated Rockmart (27-24), 3-0
