Congratulations to Gianna Brown, a New Hampstead High School senior, for being named the Prep Sports Report Grassi Flag Football Player of the Week! Gianna delivered an exceptional defensive performance in back-to-back wins on November 12 against South Effingham (20-0), and handing Jenkins their first loss of the season, 7-0.
Here's a breakdown of Gianna's stats:
- 4 interceptions total across both games:
- 2 interceptions vs. South Effingham, including a pick-six for a 40-yard touchdown.
- 2 interceptions vs. Jenkins, one of which set up excellent field position for the game's only score.
- 10 flag pulls across both games, showcasing her consistent defensive effort.
- Offensively, she caught a pass and converted it for an extra point.
New Hampstead High School Head Coach Trey Lanier said, "Gianna continues to elevate her game defensively. Her flag football IQ, combined with her athleticism, always puts her in good situations to make plays."
Note: Brown has committed to playing flag football at Emmanuel University next year and was named the Hollis Stacy Award winner for 2024. A four-sport athlete, she won the 34th Hollis Stacy Award as the most versatile female athlete in Savannah as a junior. Brown just had an incredible basketball game last night. Gianna scored 47 points last night in a Phoienix 68-34 victory against Thomas Heyward.
Gianna's performance highlights her impact in any sport she plays, proving why she is one of the top athletes in the Savannah area.
