Effingham County senior pitcher Ansleigh Giordano has been named the John Carr Real Estate/Prep Sports Report Softball Player of the Week after leading the Rebels to the Region 1-5A championship with two outstanding performances in the circle.
Giordano threw 20 innings over three games last week, earning three wins while striking out 20. She limited opponents to a .193 average and posted a stellar 0.339 ERA, driving Effingham County to its first region title since 2021.
In the Region Final Four at South Effingham, Giordano fired a two-hit shutout for a 4-0 semifinal win over Glynn Academy. She then withstood championship pressure, leading the Rebels to a 4-3 victory over their rival, South Effingham, for the title.
In two region tournament games, she pitched 14 innings, allowed just two runs, tallied nine strikeouts, and earned two wins. Her shutout and poise under pressure secured the region crown.
Head coach Brad Thompson praised Giordano’s work ethic and leadership, reflecting on her season: "Ansleigh is the model for how we think all high school athletes should be. She shows up every day with the attitude that no one will outwork her. When she steps into the circle, she expects to win."
This Augusta University commit is one of the key leaders for an Effingham County squad now 23-6 heading into the Class 5A state playoffs.
