Hurricane Helene Forces High School Football Schedule to Scramble

As Hurricane Helene landed last night, high school football teams across Georgia made changes as early as Tuesday, September 24. A handful of Friday, September 27 games stayed the same on the Week #7 schedule. Still in the path of Hurricane Helene are the coastal areas to the greater area of Atlanta, which had schools scrambling to either cancel or reschedule their games before or after the storm rushed through.

While fans across the state were preparing for the Friday night lights atmosphere, many will have to wait for a Saturday afternoon or Monday night. Hurricane Helene's impact has already forced several games to be moved and two games until Monday, September 30.

Benedictine and Liberty County are the two teams that play on Monday night, September 30. Liberty County travels to SE Bulloch in a GHSA Class 3A Region 3 matchup. Benedicitne opens GHSA Class 4A Region 3 play against Ware County at 6 p.m., which would have been one of the premier games in Georgia on Friday night. The Savannah area, in particular, saw significant changes. Here's a look at the sacked Week #7 high school football schedule for the Savannah area teams:

Week #7 Savannah Area High School Football Schedule

All times are 7:30 p.m. unless noted.

  • St. Andrew's at Robert Toombs Christian – No change.
  • Coastal HomeSchool at Harvest Christian Academy (7 p.m.) – No change.
  • Bethesda 1, Christian Academy 0 – The game has been canceled as Christian Academy forfeited, resulting in Bethesda being declared the winner.
  • Savannah Christian at Blessed Trinity – Cancelled and will not be made up.

Saturday, September 28

  • Savannah High at Portal (11 a.m.) – Rescheduled from Friday, September 27.
  • Greenbrier at Bradwell Institute (Noon) – Rescheduled from Friday, September 27.
  • Tift County at Richmond Hill (2 p.m.) – Rescheduled from Friday, September 27.
  • New Hampstead at Perry (3 p.m.) – Rescheduled from Friday, September 27.

Monday, September 30

  • Benedictine at Ware County (6 p.m.) – Rescheduled from Friday, September 27.
  • Liberty County at Southeast Bulloch – (6 p.m.) – Rescheduled from Friday, September 27.

Nine games have been affected thus far, and school officials are monitoring the situation closely. Weather conditions remain strong, and Hurricane Helene is still creating havoc across the state. As in all high school sporting events, safety is the top priority for players, coaches, and fans when deciding to play or reschedule games.

The Prep Sports Report will update the schedule as Hurricane Helene's path made a big hit on the Savannah Area high school football Week #7 schedule.
