Winning as an athlete seems like the goal that we are all going after, however we need to understand that winning itself is out of your overall control.  Whether you are playing a video game and competing against the computer or another team winning is determined by the skill of someone else which ultimately IS outside of your control.  When we want to control the controllables we should focus on the process and the skills that we can improve on to put ourselves in the best position to WIN.

If we want to improve our thinking during times of challenge and adversity here are a few things you can “think” about prior to the moment so you are prepared when it shows up.  Creating Effective Thoughts in the moment requires you to fight non-productive thoughts so you can stay focused and motivated.  The best way to W.I.N. is to ask yourself What’s Important Now!!!  This will require you to seek evidence about your training and past experiences that you can leverage for the current task at hand.

The key is to plan for the times during your performance that will happen or even those that you think will happen.  Prepare some evidence in advance that you will use during those times.  Creating reminder statements and laminating them or writing them on places you will be able to access during competition will start your development for having the Mindset of a Champion.  Can’t wait to come alongside you during your journey!

Since we can learn skills to manage how we think let’s work together to accomplish the mindset necessary to be great when it matters most!  Visit Robert at www.elitemindsllc.com or email at Robert@elitemindsllc.com.
