The Richmond Hill High School boys and girls cross-country teams kicked off the 2020 season in Vidalia this past weekend like they haven’t missed a step from last year. The Wildcats are the defending 2019 Georgia High School Association Region 2-6A champions. Saturday they ran away with the boys and girls titles at the 1st Annual Vidalia Indian Run on Saturday, August 22, 2020. The Running Wildcats boy’s team placed 10 runners in the top 20 of the race. Seven of those runners finished in the top ten. The Lady Running Wildcats placed four runners in the top ten.

The Richmond Hill High School boy’s team finished with 29 points taking first, followed by South Effingham with 43 points in second, and host Vidalia placed third. The Lady Wildcats finished with 29 points, also for a first place finish like the boys. South Effingham totaled with 67 points for the second spot, and West Laurens placed third. The scoring is base on where the runners finish. For example, a first place finish is worth 1 point, 2nd place 2 points, and so on for each respective finish. The first five finishers for each team will count for the total team score according to the GHSA.

Pacing the Wildcats boys’ team and taking first place overall individually was senior Corey Adamski with a time of 17:00:18. The other top five finishers were, in fifth place junior Dylan Overbey, in sixth senior Josh Mitchell, in seventh place sophomore Chester Gregg, and eighth place freshmen Memphis Rich. For the Richmond Hill girls, sophomore Savannah Goode finished third overall with a time of 22:11. The rest of the team finishing sixth sophomore Caroline Cameron, in seventh junior Ashley McGuire, in tenth freshmen Mary Kyle Kitchens-Hayes, and in twelfth sophomore Julia Murphy.
