Over the final weekend of November, the Raiders saw two teams return home as runner-ups for their respective state championships. First up was the Raider Clay Shooting team. The Middle School Clay Shooting team competed Thursday with the 8th Grade team finishing 2nd overall. Will Mills won 1st in Skeet and 2nd HOA. Emaline Haddad won 2nd in Ladies Skeet, 2nd in Ladies Sporting Clays, and 2nd in Ladies HOA. Jim Reynolds Morrison placed 3rd in Skeet.

The Raiders began their high school competition on Friday at Forest City Gun Club with the competition finalizing their results late Saturday evening. The scores for the Raiders were as follows:

Connor Daniel 288/300

Josh Skalla 281/300

Ethan Thurmon 269/300

Andrew Mills 268/300

John Mauro 267/300

As a team this gave the Raiders a 2nd place finish, falling only 6 targets short of 1st place. Individually. Connor Daniel also finished as the Sporting Clays Champion (Open Division) and HOA Runner Up (Open Division). Overall, the Clay shooting team continues to put on impressive performances and look ready for many successful years down the road.

The Raider Competition Cheer was also in action over the weekend at the GHSA State Championship in Macon on Saturday. The Raiders went into Saturday riding high off the momentum of a great regular season. The Raiders finished in 1st place in all regular season competitions with their only 2nd place finish coming at GHSA Sectionals the week prior. The Raiders turned in a great performance and earned themselves a 2nd place finish for the second straight year. Afterward, Coach Bowers said, “I am very proud of my girls for pushing through! 2nd in the State for Single-A Private is a huge accomplishment! I am very proud! It’s been my pleasure coaching all of them and I can’t wait to start planning next season!” While the Raiders had hopes of bringing home a state championship the players and coaches can hold their heads high after putting together a season of high-quality performances and top-tier results week after week!

Congratulations to our two Raider teams on fantastic 2021 seasons!
