Winners of WEEK 9 of the John Carr Seaport Real Estate/Prep Sports Report Baseball Players of the Week

PITCHER of the WEEK

Player: Ely Brown - senior Pitcher/Infielder/DH

School: Savannah Christian Preparatory School

Sport: Baseball

Week:  April 10 - April 15, 2023

HIGHLIGHT: Brown started a big region game on April 13, 2023, versus Savannah Country Day. In the 9-0 Raider victory, Ely picked up the win going five innings, giving up no runs, no hits, and striking out 10 Hornets.

Note:  Ely was also considered the player of the week in three games last week at the plate versus Savannah Country Day and Metter. Ely hit .430 with two home runs, four runs batted in, three runs scored, and four walks.

COACH'S COMMENT:  "Ely stepped up last week and helped carry our team to a region series sweep of Savannah Country Day and a non-region win against defending state champion Metter. He is starting to get hot at the right time!" - Savannah Christian Preparatory School head baseball coach Matthew Oglesby.

POSITION PLAYER of the WEEK

Player: Tyler Goldrick, senior Infielder

School: Richmond Hill High School

Sport: Baseball

Week:  April 10 - April 15, 2023

HIGHLIGHT: In 3 games last week that Richmond Hill had to sweep to host the playoffs, Ty Goldrick showed up in a big way against the Colquitt County Packers. The senior first baseman hit .636 (7 for 11) with five doubles. He also finished the week with 7 RBIs, 2 R, 2 BB, and a .692 OBP.

COACH'S COMMENT: "In a series where we needed some big hits, Ty answered the call. The bases-clearing double in game two, with two strikes, to tie the game in the 5th was as big of an at-bat we've had this season. We had to win that game to stay in the hunt for the 2 seed and achieve one of our goals, which is to host a playoff series. We hope Ty and the team continue to build and play for each other as we prepare for the 1st round of the playoffs," said Richmond Hill High School baseball coach Hill Thomas.
