For a cheerleader to be named a UCA All-American, she must go to a UCA camp and try out for the All-American team. At the end of each camp, all Cheerleaders can try out, no matter how old or skilled they are. The tryouts consist of various skills, including tumbling, stunting, and dance. Judges evaluate cheerleaders on their technique, form, and overall performance.

The Hornets competed at the multi-day camp and were among fifteen teams. The SCDS cheer routine won first place. Lindsey Turner is the head coach of the cheerleading team at SCDS. Coach Turner said, "I am so proud of how much the girls have grown during preseason. I can't wait to see what happens for the rest of the year."

According to their website, the Universal Cheerleaders Association has been around since 1974 and runs the largest cheerleading camps in the world. Every summer, UCA teaches more than 180,000 cheerleaders at more than 3,200 sessions throughout the United States.
