Sometimes, it's about taking over. Sometimes, it's about carrying your team. This week, we saw both.
One pitcher owned the mound from the first pitch. One hitter couldn’t miss when it mattered most.
Troy Devoe of Savannah Athletic Association is the pitcher of the week, and Chase Boyer of Savannah Christian takes position player, earning his second honor this season.
Pitcher of the Week – Troy Devoe
Savannah Athletic Association | Junior
When you’re locked in from the first pitch, good things usually follow, and that’s exactly what Troy Devoe did.
On March 17, playing on the road against Patrick Henry Academy, Devoe pitched all seven innings for the Savannah Jaguars, earning a complete game one-hitter. He allowed no earned runs, struck out 14 batters, and led his team to an 11-2 victory.
He attacked the zone all night, threw 70% strikes, and stayed in control, his coach said.
Savannah Jaguars head coach Elias Macias said Devoe set the tempo early and never backed off.
“Troy was in command from the first pitch of the night,” Macias said. “His 14 strikeouts are a career high, and he’s really stepped into a leadership role for us this season.”
That’s what you want from your ace: compete, control the game, and give your team a chance to win.
Player of the Week – Chase Boyer
Savannah Christian | Senior
At the plate, Chase Boyer put together one of the best weeks you’ll see all season.
Boyer helped lead Savannah Christian to a series win over Vidalia, going 7-for-8 (.875) with three doubles, a home run, eight RBIs, and five runs scored.
And when the moment was biggest, he delivered.
In Game 3 on March 20th of the series, Boyer went 3-for-3, with a double for the third straight game, a grand slam, and 7 RBIs, leading the Raiders to the win and closing out the series.
Savannah Christian head coach Matt Oglesby said Boyer’s performance carried the team.
“Chase had a great week,” Oglesby said. “He really catapulted our team to a series win against Vidalia.”
That’s production when it matters — and exactly what you expect from a senior leader.
