Abigail Cheney and Nicholas Scarano both trailed after the first round of the Matt Warren Memorial tournament played at Savannah Quarters Country Club in Pooler July 14-15.
Cheney was behind by four strokes after an uncharacteristic round of 8-over par 80 in the first round but posted a 3-over par 75 in the second round to overtake Hayden Price and win the coveted trophy. Nicholas Scarano, who also won the Savannah Junior City Amateur championship, was two strokes behind first-round leader Andrew Carr but came back with a solid round of 4-over par 76 to catch Carr and claim another victory.
In the Boys 13-14 age group, Hal Dollander made a birdie on the last hole of the tournament to clip Richmond Hill's Matthew Reynolds by one stroke. And in the Boys 10-12 age group, Jack Weeks carded the only under par round of the tournament with a 1-under 71 in the first round, then hung on to win despite an up and down second round of 7-over par 79.
In the Boys 15-18 age group, Hunter Thompson carded steady scores of 85-84 for a comfortable victory.
