For the second straight year, the Savannah Chatham County Public School middle school football championship was a meeting of the 'Skidaway Road Rivalry' between Oglethorpe Charter School and Meyers Middle School. The OCS Titans capped off an undefeated 7-0 season by avenging last year's loss with a 36-6 win to capture their sixth SCCPSS football championship.
"Losing to them 6-0 last year, we kind of felt like there was some unfinished business," Titan's coach Derek Perry said. "We stumbled a little bit coming out of the gate and made a lot of mental mistakes, but once we found our footing it was game on."
After a scoreless first quarter, the Titans took a 14-0 lead into halftime after speedy WR/CB Mason Pratt torched the Meyers defense for a pair of long touchdowns on back-to-back possessions.
"[Pratt] is probably the fastest kid in the league. He's such a dynamic weapon. He can score from anywhere on the field," said Perry.
Another standout performance from the Titans came from quarterback Banari Wells, who had a very impressive game, with two passing touchdowns and several huge runs throughout the course of the game.
"Banari is nothing but a winner," Perry said. "All he does is perform. When you need a big play, when you need a first down, you put the ball in his hands and Banari is going to make it happen."
Oglethorpe Charter pitched a shutout deep into the fourth quarter, which was broken when Meyers scored a touchdown in the game's final minute. Until that touchdown, the Titans had not allowed a point all season.
"We had no weaknesses across the team. This was a complete team on both sides of the ball," Perry said.
Congratulations to the Oglethorpe Charter Titans on an amazing championship season.
