Another South Effingham High School standout student-athlete signed a letter of intent on Thursday, November 19, 2020, to take her talent to the next level.

One of the top local junior female golfers in the area and state, Abigail Cheney, put her signature on the dotted line.  Cheney signed her National Letter of Intent to continue her academic and golf career at Shorter University. The Hawks are a member of Division II Gulf South Conference.

This summer Abigail was the winner at the Savannah Junior Golf Associations' annual Matt Warren Memorial Tournament. This tournament is the summer season-ending championship.  Cheney was the leader from start to finish in the Girls Open Division, scoring a 72 and 78 for 6-over 150, five strokes better than the runner-up.

As a Mustang junior, Cheney led South Effingham to a fourth-place finish at the Georgia High School State Association (GHSA) girls 6A state championships. Abigail carded an impresive score of 176 for two rounds with carding an 83 in the second round of the tournament.
